Surya Namaskara (Sun Salutation)

Asanas, Yoga Postures, are not simply exercises. They affect muscular/skeletal relationships and more importantly, the deeper internal body chemistry.

For example Surya Namaskara (Sun Salutation) is a powerful sequence, a superbly efficient way of establishing and maintaining joint and muscle strength and flexibility as well as cardiovascular health.

It needs to be approached gradually and progressively (slowly increasing the number of rounds on a weekly basis) as it also helps to eliminate the toxic byproducts of stressful and sedentary lifestyle.

When you assume a seemingly static Yoga Posture (asana), blood flow to internal organs is altered and gravity can also be brought
into play. For instance, in inverted Asanas, when they are held for some time, the heart itself actually changes shape.. a passive, non-aerobic change to its configuration which can help maintain arterial and valvular health.
